Dome raising
August 7th we hauled the triangle dome panels from the storage unit to our ridge
top. On Sunday the 8th we began assembling our shop dome.
Dome raising day!
With Dan's trailer and Bruce's trailer loaded with 40 triangles each we were
able to haul all the triangle panels in two trips.
We
stacked the panels inside the shop area.
The
last hill shook the load up pretty good but all the panels made it.
Three
loads unloaded with one to go.
The
panel hauling crew: Rick, Ethan, Bruce, Dan, Renae, Josh, Austin, Mike, Dan,
Christine, & Michelle.
Can't call it a day without putting up one panel.
Three
generations happy with the day's progress.
Uncle Dan, Grandpa Dan &
Austin (who really doesn't care about the progress but found a boomarang stick
and has a hammer so all is good).
OK, one more panel!

Day 2
The real assembly Day
By
lunch time all the uppies (I know that's not a word but it's my web page) were
installed on the first row.
The
downies were a little more difficult until they got the hang of it.
Happy
faces
...as it fits together!
Cool, huh?
Crew for the Day: Josh, Renae, Bob, Mike, Dan, Dan, Ethan, Michelle, & Austin.
See ya next weekend.
We
were hoping we could do a row of "uppies & downies" on Saturday and
another on Sunday. By the end of Saturday the complete second row, and the
third row of uppies were in place.
Bob
& Josh were the crew at the top of the scaffolding installing the
panels.
3:20
Saturday. The second row of downies are in and the first uppie of the third row
goes up.
We
used a winch to get the panels up to the top of the scaffolding.
8-14-10
By
11:30 Saturday all the uppies were in place. Christine and I stapled sill seal
to the edges of the panels. They were installing them so fast we had a hard time
keeping ahead of them.
The
last panel of the day
8-15-10
Yesterday
was a hot day. Today will be hotter. Bob and Josh are back on top the tall
scaffold and mike is working on the second row, tightning up the bolts.
Once
the upper bolts are tightned the extention entrance panels are
removed.
Then
the carport entrance is opened up
The
panels removed will be used further up the dome
Dan
cut the window openings in the panels.
The
scoffolding was raised another section higher.
Another
triangle going up
The
last uppie of row four!
August
22nd
Row four completed. The higher we go the slower and more difficult
it gets.
Josh,
George, and Dan raising the scaffolding another level.
A
view from the top.
Dan,
Josh, and George working on row 5.
The
hole at the top is constantly changing shape.

and Dan tightning bolts.
End
of the day.
August
28th
Last Sunday we ended with a panel not wanting to go into its place. So we started by taking two panels out and making some adjustments. Bob and Josh worked hard to get the panels aligned.
By
the end of Saturday all panels were installed except the top pentagon and two
"downies" from row 5.
8-29-10
Bruce
brought up his tractor to do some final smoothing and to spread the rock we have
coming for the driveway.
Now
the big question is, how well will the top pentagon fit?
A
nail is added so they can hang these last 5 panels over the edge.
All
five panels hanging over the edge.
Now
the winch is in the way of the last few panels. It is uninstalled and lowered
down.
The
last panel!
It
dropped part way into place. Now if we could pound it down from the
top.....
Wait,
Bruce has an idea.
Nope,
thats not going to work.
Lets
use a rope instead. BRILLIANT!
Greg
volunteers for the climb to the top.
The shop dome shell is complete!!!
View
from the hill we call "the nob"
Bob instructed Greg from the scaffolding below, on which corner needed to
be pounded on. He would shout "mountain" for the point towards the mountain or
lake or Frank (our neighbor) for the other points.
"Mountain"
"Lake" "Mountain" "again" "again" "Frank" "Lake" "again" "Mountain"
"Frank" "again"
"Lake" ...........
And
then we heard them drive the bolts through the holes. YEH
